Some of France ’s wealthiest citizens are heading to Belgium , a country ready and willing to reap the benefits of France ’s socialist stupidity. England ’s Prime Minister David Cameron, whose 50% tax rate is no great bargain, has rolled out the red carpet and been more then willing to poach France ’s lost tax revenues. Wealthy French families are now buying luxury properties in England and Cameron’s shrewd marketing is paying big dividends for the Brits.
This puts the arrogant and floofy headed French in a bit of a squeeze as Europe ’s newest and hippest progressive socialist regime. It may be quite difficult for the French to convince the rest of the world, with a straight face, that their new tax the makers, appease the takers government is a success when the successful want absolutely nothing to do with it. It’s certainly no coincidence that those who would be required to finance this Utopian redistribution of wealth are not going to support its implementation.
It was British philosopher John Locke who observed that natural laws exist, independent of any government system that provides for an individual’s right not only to life and liberty, but also to property, which are the fruits of a person’s labor and enterprise. The perplexing problem with this stems from the odd human condition that causes one to respect property rights primarily when that property is their own that is targeted for seizure. A liberal progressive protester who has his/her wallet stolen by a homeless person so he can subsidize his lifestyle might consider that act a crime and cry foul, but if that homeless person has his lifestyle subsidized by someone else’s wallet stemming from some government run entitlement program, then they would most likely consider that necessary and noble. It feels much better to a progressive liberal when the money is first laundered through an ineffective, inefficient government process and dispensed with a feeling of goodwill and charity.
It is this flaw that has given socialism a 0% success rate. It has and will always fail. Humans will always resist anyone’s attempt to take their property beyond what they are already willing to give. This is the very foundation of the social contract between a free man and a just government. When that government seeks to violate that contract and goes about seizing that man’s property without his consent, then he has the right to exercise his liberty and seek another contract with a new government either by revolution or, as is the case in France, expatriation. The French find the whole fighting for freedom thing to be rather base you see, more of an uncouth western tendency.
The left wing socialists in France have responded to the wealthy in exactly the same way they handle all conflict arising from their policies; by name calling, character vilification and threats. Some are calling for the French citizenship of those who leave the country to be permanently revoked if they do not pay their ransom to the motherland. With a smaller and smaller redistributive pot of money for the French socialist nanny staters to scoop from, these ransoms could get downright medieval and the French middle class would be the next target in line for the socialist monster to feed on. They could of course simply dispense with this Utopian disaster and regain their senses but I don’t see that happening and they can’t surrender themselves out of this mess.
